SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A controversial video showing a North Sacramento teacher pulling her eyes back in a gesture considered offensive to Asian people is making the rounds on social media. This comes following a string of reported hate incidents against people of Asian descent, stoking fear and anxiety.

“For many of us who are Asian, the gestures that were made in that video are not unfamiliar to us,” said state Sen. Dr. Richard Pan. “We’ve seen it repeatedly, unfortunately, throughout our lives.”
